We will provide each customer with a kitchen compost pail (2 gallon) and a compost cart (65 gallon) for pick up at curbside. Pick up is available every two weeks. Please contact Alternative Recycling Systems for pricing in your town.
1. Put your container in a convenient place

and place in container
3. Walk the cart curbside on collection day.
Leave the hard work to us!
Sometimes composting can result in unwanted “ick” factors, such as flies and maggots. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered with a helpful guide you can download for avoiding the ick!
It’s okay if you’re not entirely familiar with the basics of composting. Download our helpful do’s and don’ts flyer which will help you distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable green waste materials.
Since our inception, Alternative Recycling Systems has been giving back to the community through donations and sponsorships.
Composting reduces the amount of waste you send to the landfill. You may have heard of the recent closures of local landfills. Issues of what to do with our waste are a frequent consideration of residents, businesses and municipalities. By participating in our organics program, you reduce the amount of waste sent to a landfill. Did you know that research shows that almost half of your trash can actually be composted? Not only food scraps, but newspaper, paper bags, pizza boxes, leaves and more can be composted.
DON’T ORGANIC ITEMS BREAK DOWN IN A LANDFILL TOO?
When organic waste is sent to a landfill, it does not get any oxygen, so even though it breaks down, it creates methane, which is considered a harmful greenhouse gas. Composting turns your waste into a useful product! Your organics are brought to a local facility where the waste is placed into windrows, conditions are monitored and the rows are turned on a regular basis. And the end result is a wonderful compost suitable for farming and gardening.
Businesses, municipalities and other commercial ventures are becoming more aware of the benefits of composting. We also are one of the few area companies to offer a commercial organics program. We can work with small businesses to larger institutions such as colleges and hospitals. Our curbside composting is available for rental units and smaller businesses (limited service area).
Read more about the commercial food waste disposal ban here. These regulations ban landfill disposal of food and other organic wastes from businesses and institutions that dispose of more than one ton of these materials per week.
